Why I Choose Shatima
Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, said the reason for choosing Kashim Shettima as vice president was not religion.
Tinubu from the southwest region and Shettima from the northeast are Muslims and the APC's Muslim-Muslim ticket has drawn mixed reactions from Nigeria.
Organizations such as the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN also criticized this.
At a meeting with members of the Pentecostal Bishops' Association in Abuja on Thursday, Tinubu said he chose Shettima as his candidate because of her character and history.
“How can we fight hunger? How can we improve security and stop the killing and bloodshed of innocent citizens? That's what we have to bring to the office, not our religion," he said.
“When the selected names came in, I checked the characters, story and everything. This is someone (Kashim Shettima) who is smart, hardworking and defended Christians during the Borno Crisis.
"My intention is clear, this is not about religion. My intention is to build this country to create higher quality stories and visions, better than my friends.
Why do we want to live separately? I stand before you and have the right to say that I am one of the friends of the Christian community in this country. "
Tinubu's comments came hours after Babachir Lawal, a former minister of the Federation Government (SGF), said the APC party's decision to issue a Muslim-Muslim ticket was a plot to divide North Korea.
"As community leaders, we did our best to live as brothers and sisters, but even so, this evil decision came out of the blue," said Laval.
“For everyone who wants unity in this country, especially in the north of the country that has been hit the hardest, this ticket will never work. And we're going to make sure we beat it so that nobody in their right mind is going to think about it again, at least not in our future political outings in Nigeria.
