Breaking News: Nigerian Labor Congress Cancels Planned National Strikes Over Fuel Subsidies
The Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) has called off a planned strike due to rising fuel prices following the lifting of subsidies.
SaharaReporters previously reported that a Nigerian government delegation had convened the leadership of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) to meet at the Presidential Palace in Abuja to discuss complaints over the removal of fuel subsidies.
Meanwhile, at the end of the meeting, the NLC announced that some action had been taken, and it was agreed that the strike would not proceed as planned.
“The parties therefore agreed as follows: A. That the NLC immediately suspend the strike to allow further consultations... The Center for Labor and the federal government will meet on June 19 to agree on an implementation framework,” read part of a new communication from the NLC. .
The NLC, led by its President, Comrade Joe Ajero, arrived at the Presidential Palace at around 17.45 Monday.
The government team at the meeting included Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Group Chief Executive Officer, GCEO, NNPCL, Mele Kyari, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon. James Faleke, Secretary of State, Ministry of Labor, Labor and Employment, Chillum Daju and others.
Unions declared a strike Friday after the NEC meeting in Abuja regarding the fuel subsidies and fuel price hikes.
